How We Work
Welfare comes first
The welfare of the child is paramount. Concerns are taken seriously, recorded accurately and acted on promptly — and we never promise secrecy when a child discloses something that affects their safety.
Safer recruitment
Every role is defined against DBS eligibility. We verify identity, qualifications and coaching credentials, take up references, and require safeguarding induction before anyone delivers unsupervised.
Clear adult boundaries
Coaches follow a written code of conduct: open, observable coaching, no isolated one-to-one situations where avoidable, official communication channels with parents rather than private contact with children.
Reporting route
Coaches report to the Safeguarding Lead immediately and do not investigate themselves. The Lead decides next steps, including seeking advice or referral to children's social care or police. 999 is used where a child is at immediate risk.
Inclusion
Bullying and sexist, racist, homophobic or disablist language are challenged. Girls and boys get equitable access to equipment, leadership, playing time and positive attention. Girls-only sessions widen access rather than framing mixed sessions as a boys' space.
Wellbeing, not clinical care
We teach confidence, resilience, coping with mistakes, emotional regulation and goal setting. We do not diagnose, provide therapy or replace healthcare, and we involve parents where a young person is distressed.
Before Every Session
Coaches complete a dynamic risk check at the venue before any activity starts.
- —Playing surface checked for holes, glass, standing water, ice and fouling
- —Goals, nets, boundaries and equipment stable and safe
- —Cricket hitting and bowling zones separated from waiting groups and public routes
- —Weather and temperature acceptable, with a clear cancellation threshold
- —Toilets, changing and access arrangements confirmed
- —First-aid kit, phone, emergency contacts and venue address to hand
- —Emergency vehicle access known and unobstructed
- —Attendance register and authorised collection information available
- —Medical, allergy and emergency medication information accessible to authorised staff
